Natural Resources & Conservation
The natural environment of Glenn County is conserved through best
management practices. Public lands purchased for preservation of wildlife
generate additional economic activity. Openness of the landscape
defines Glenn County. There are still rural areas with open
lands and recreational opportunities.
The conflict between working landscapes of private lands open to
viewing but closed to active recreation is resolved to protect private
property from vandalism, trespass, and liability while promoting the
public’s desire for maintaining open vistas. Active recreational opportunities
abound both on public lands and commercial operations. A bikeway and pathway
system permits ready access to such lands. The county retains its abundant
recreational opportunities, attracting people who are also attracted to
outdoor activity, and a lifestyle which permits time to enjoy the
out-of-doors. The public is well
educated to take personal responsibility for respecting private and public
properties. At the same time, new
urban development is fully complemented with parks and other open space
features, ensuring a healthy and enjoyable living environment. Natural
hazards, such as seismic, wildfires, and flooding, have been identified and
all development respects these natural forces. Mitigation measures are in place to
reduce the impact of such natural hazards on existing development; improving
the safety of communities and facilities.
