VISION

GLENN COUNTY

GENERAL PLAN

2007 - 2027

Sustainable Economy

The economy of Glenn County is diverse and vital.  There is access to technology and the global market for agriculture and small businesses.  There is a balance between jobs and housing to minimize commuting.  Our children have local work opportunities to meet their employment needs.  The local small business remains the backbone of the community. There is concerted and adequately funded economic development effort.  New industries that no longer find urban environments attractive and efficient places to do business locate within or near Hamilton City, Orland and Willows, in industrial parks created through public and private action.  This emphasis on creation of jobs significantly reduces the county unemployment rate and assists in reducing the public assistance burden. The retail and service sector also grows, in part due to an aggressive economic development effort and in part to growth in population.  More goods and services are available within the county. Sales tax leakage is reduced.  Commuting to out of county for employment as well as for goods and services diminishes in relative importance.  The county fully capitalizes on its proximity to I-5, and generates considerable economic activity related to motorists on the highway.
